Welcome Speech at Inaugural Conference of Construction Innovation and Technology Application Centre

Event: Inaugural Conference of Construction Innovation and Technology Application Centre
Date: 10 January 2018

Mr. CK HON, the Permanent Secretary for Development, Professor GANN, Dr. LUEBKEMAN, Mr. ENZER, Mr. Alfred SIT, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning and Happy New Year!

I believe it is the first time for many of you to be here, especially our overseas guests. So, welcome to CIC and CITAC.

As explained in the introductory leaflet of this Conference, the Construction Industry Innovation and Technology Application Centre (CITAC) was only recently opened. It is a new initiative of the Construction Industry Council to promote and encourage Innovation in the Hong Kong construction industry.

The CITAC has two main objectives:

Number one is to bring in the latest technology and knowledge for their application in Hong Kong.

Number two is to provoke innovative thinking and to create a landscape that it is conducive to innovation. This is where Institutional Framework comes in, the very purpose of this morning’s session.

We are grateful to have our speakers for sharing their knowledge and experience on how Institutional Framing can be established and developed. In particular, we have to thank Professor GANN, Dr. LUEBKEMAN and Mr. ENZER for travelling a long way to be with us.

It is anticipated that the volume of construction in Hong Kong, will remain at high level for the next ten years. It is a very appropriate time, for us to look at this important subject. I believe, we have a lot to learn and to share between us.

I wish you all a very useful Conference and please make sure that you find time to visit the CITAC and tell us how to improve it.

Thank you.

Mr. CHAN Ka-kui
Chairman, Construction Industry Council
