Seminar on“Design of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) - Engineering Perspective and Practice in Hong Kong”

Due to the shortage of construction worker and limited land use, many cities like Hong Kong is heading to the direction of improving construction efficiency by adopting more efficient construction method such as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) to building high-rise buildings. Modular Integrated Construction  (MiC) is one of the game changing technologies that support the DfMA concept to significantly speed up construction. It is a new method of construction whereby free-standing integrated modules (completed with finishes, fixtures and fittings) are prefabricated in a factory and then transported to site for installation in a building.  Speaker will share with the audiences his insight knowledge on DfMA and MiC.

Speaker: Ir Thomas TONG

Ir TONG is the General Manager of Innovation and Technology Development in Construction Industry Council (CIC) and a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers as well as the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

Ir TONG has extensive experience in design of various projects from conception to completion in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.  He had applied MiC / DfMA and innovative construction design approach in his UK and Hong Kong projects.  Before joining CIC, Ir TONG was the Technical Director of one of the world’s leading engineering professional services firms and had been one of the delegates in the firm’s global leadership and global technical team.
