The CIC organised a Beijing Study Tour held on December 17 – 18 to explore the latest advancements in building technology in Mainland. This experience not only deepened our understanding of innovation in the construction industry but also reinforced our commitment to sustainability and digital transformation.
Future Lab of the China Academy of Building Research
Our journey began at the Future Lab, the world’s largest full-scale building environment and energy experimental platform. Established in 2020, this state-of-the-art facility is a testament to China’s remarkable progress in Near Zero Energy Building Technology. Spanning an impressive 1,500 square meters, the lab features six residential buildings: Pioneer (2020), Vanguard (2035), and Future (2050), each representing a milestone in the evolution of sustainable construction. This groundbreaking initiative promotes ultra-low, near-zero, and zero carbon consumption, aligning with China’s ambitious goals to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Witnessing these innovations firsthand was a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of technology in shaping a greener future.
SuperMap Software Co. Ltd
Next, we visited SuperMap, Asia’s largest GIS (Geographic Information System) software provider and the second largest globally. Here, we delved into their pioneering GIS technologies, which play a pivotal role in digitisation and the development of smart cities. From urban planning to environmental monitoring, SuperMap’s solutions are driving the digital transformation of industries worldwide.
CSCEC Science and Technology Exhibition
Our tour culminated at the CSCEC Science and Technology Exhibition, organised by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. This exhibition was a treasure trove of innovation, featuring 167 groundbreaking items across three main themes:
1. Building a Harmonious City
Showcasing innovations that foster resilient cities where nature and humans coexist in harmony, this theme highlighted the integration of smart management systems and eco-friendly designs. From green infrastructure to intelligent urban planning, the exhibits demonstrated how technology can create cities that are both sustainable and livable.
2. Expanding a Happy Living Environment
Focused on enhancing livability, this theme emphasised sustainable practices and the renovation of old buildings using advanced technologies. It was inspiring to see how modern solutions are being applied to improve the quality of life while preserving cultural heritage.
3. Promoting China-Built
This theme celebrated the transformation of the construction industry through new productivity methods, including greening, intelligence, and industrialisation. From smart factory solutions to construction software and robotics, the exhibition showcased how innovation is driving the industry forward.
The delegates were truly captivated by the remarkable achievements on display, which highlighted the latest advancements in digitalisation, industrialisation, and intelligent development.
