The future of construction is here, and it’s robotic. Recently, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) organised an inspiring visit for specialised plastering practitioners to Guangzhou and Foshan, where they engaged with three leading robotic companies: Shanghai Weibuild Technology Co., Ltd., ORCAS Robot Co., Ltd., and Bright Dream Robotics Co., Ltd.

This visit was a groundbreaking opportunity to bridge the gap between cutting-edge robotics and traditional construction practices, fostering collaboration and innovation in the plastering trade. Here’s a glimpse into this transformative journey:

1.      Weibuild’s Plastering Robot in Action

The delegation witnessed Weibuild’s plastering robot at work on the construction site of the Guangzhou Football Park Stadium, a monumental project spanning 478,000 square meters. The robot’s precision and efficiency were truly impressive, demonstrating how automation can revolutionise large-scale construction projects.

2.      ORCAS’s Floor Grinding Robot

Next, the group visited a commercial building site to observe ORCAS’s floor grinding robot in action. This innovative technology showcased how robotics can streamline labour-intensive tasks, enhancing both productivity and safety on-site.

3.      Bright Dream Robotics’ Testing and Training Facility

The tour concluded at Bright Dream Robotics, where the delegation explored their state-of-the-art testing and training facility. Here, they gained valuable insights into the capabilities of various robots such as concrete smoothing, concrete leveling, plastering-related robots etc.

This visit was more than just a showcase of technology—it was a platform for productive exchanges between practitioners and robotic vendors. The companies not only demonstrated their innovations but also engaged in collaborative dialogue, allowing practitioners to share their on-the-ground experiences and insights.

The Future of Construction Robotics

The adoption of construction robotics in the plastering trade is no longer a distant dream—it’s on the horizon. Robots have the potential to revolutionise productivity and enhance safety within our industry. However, as robotics is still a relatively new frontier, challenges remain in seamlessly integrating these technologies into existing practices.

This requires fine-tuning robotic systems to align with traditional methods or adapting to new construction methodologies. At the CIC, we believe that fostering dialogue between robotic companies and frontline industry stakeholders is crucial for bridging these gaps.

Together, through co-creation initiatives, we can drive the transformation necessary for the evolution of our industry. By combining the expertise of practitioners with the innovation of robotic companies, we can unlock new possibilities and build a future that is smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
