How can our construction industry accelerate its journey toward sustainability and digital innovation by learning from global pioneers? Led by our Chairman, Ir Prof. Thomas HO, and our Executive Director, Ir Albert CHENG, a delegation of Hong Kong construction industry leaders embarked on a study tour to Singapore to explore the advanced achievements in construction sustainability and digitalisation.

The tour began with a visit to the CR116 Ang Mo Kio Underground Interchange Station & Tunnels, where the delegation explored advanced technologies such as Augmented Visualisation of Underground Services, robotics, video analytics, drones and 7D BIM. These innovations are helping to reshape underground construction with greater precision and safety.

At the BCA Academy, construction industry leaders engaged in insightful dialogues with experts from the Singapore Green Building Council and the Building and Construction Authority on innovations in digitalisation, sustainability, and improving productivity.

The day concluded with a guided tour of the BCA Braddell Campus, showcasing the integration of advanced construction technologies such as Mass Engineered Timber, Advanced Precast Concrete System, Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction, and Prefabricated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems in a single project. This enabled the project to achieve a 15% productivity gain and a 60% to 80% reduction in manpower requirements. On top of that, the Zero-Energy Building and high-rise Super Lower Energy Buildings within the campus also achieved best-in-class sustainability performance via the adoption of innovations such as Passive Displacement Ventilation Cooling Systems that resulted in an estimated 86% savings in fan energy consumption.

We are proud to foster cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange to drive Hong Kong’s construction industry forward.
