The CIC’s “Life First 2025” campaign has received overwhelming support from the industry with numerous construction sites participating since its launch. Last Friday, Ir Prof. Thomas HO, our Chairman of the CIC, visited a construction site at the Hong Kong Electric Lamma Power Station to take part in the campaign and interact with the frontline workers. As summer has approached, they also distributed chilled herbal tea to workers to help them cool down and stay hydrated.

This year’s “Life First” campaign is themed “Walk the Talk, Care round-the-clock,” aiming to promote construction safety messages and strengthen the caring culture within the industry. The 13th day of the sixth lunar month marks the Lo Pan Festival, in his sharing, Chairman HO highlighted the spirit of craftsmanship, encouraging frontline workers to uphold the values of “craftsmanship in heart, action, skill, and spirit,” to follow Lo Pan’s example and comply with the proper practices.

With the recent extreme heat, apart from prioritising construction safety, Chairman HO urged the workers to also underscore the importance of staying alert to their physical condition to prevent heatstroke.

This event has brought together several industry leaders to share experiences and safety messages. Mr.Norman CHAN, General Manager (Projects) at Hongkong Electric, used demolition procedures as an example to illustrate the importance of dynamic risk assessment, emphasising that safety is priceless and must not be reduced to mere slogans, while representatives from contractors Kum Shing and CHEC shared their safety and care initiatives, such as site health check programs and the Smart Site Safety System (4S) platform, all aimed at enhancing site safety with a people-first approach.

Additionally, the event featured booths by tech companies showcasing equipment such as cooling vests, smart electronic locks, scaffolding safety sensor as well as IoT sensors related to the 4S system. The project team also introduced their 4S platform, demonstrating the effectiveness of innovation and technology.
