Ir Prof. Thomas HO, Chairman of the CIC, accompanied by Mr. Raymond KO, Executive Director of Shui On Construction Limited and their team, recently visited the site of High-Voltage Transmission Circuits Project at Kwai Chung Road by Kum Shing Group, highlighting the implementation of innovative solutions to improve work sustainability and safety standards.

The project mainly involves laying 2.5 km transmission cables to provide a robust and reliable power supply to the Lam Tin Street Data Centre. Ir Henry YUE, General Manager of Kum Shing, highlighted the complexities of cable-laying work in a busy urban area.  Through proactive stakeholder engagement before construction, the team had added greenery to high-traffic excavation areas to reduce impact on shops. To further improve safety, the team has introduced mobile cameras for real-time monitoring, with plans to integrate AI technology for instant alerts and data logging, enabling remote supervision. Daily Pre-Work Risk Assessments are conducted with RSS asking questions to ensure everyone understands working procedures and safety protocols, and video is uploaded to a centralised platform for review. Lifting operations feature an “emergency alarm” to direct workers to safe zones during trenchless construction works. For water seepage issue, a water level marker triggers immediate evacuation if exceeded. Ir Prof. HO praised the integration of safety into daily operations, emphasising the vital role of frontline workers in upholding safety standards.

Ir Gary KO, Deputy CEO of Kum Shing, and Mr. George LAU, General Manager of Kum Shing, underscored their safety-first approach through the PET (People, Environment, Task) model. A centralised safety management platform - CyView monitors site conditions in real-time and provides safety videos and information to workers. Cold eyes review is conducted by cross-team to identify potential risks within the current practices. Ir Prof. HO commended the efforts of the project team to put everything digitalised, to enhance safety and efficiency, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility, driven from management to frontline workers. Let's step forward to drive the industry to new peaks!
