43 Students Awarded the "Scholarship for Family Members of Registered Construction Workers"
The CIC's "Scholarship for Family Members of Registered Construction Workers" commends the family members of construction workers for their academic excellence, encourages intergenerational knowledge transfer, and honours the artisans who work tirelessly to build a sustainable Hong Kong. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of 17 organisations, 43 students from the Open Category and the Construction-related Curricula Category received scholarships this year. The CIC nurtures youth by encouraging students to inherit their parents' artisan spirit, enhance their personal competitiveness through continuous learning, and increase their opportunities for upward mobility.
The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Celebrates its Class of 2025 Graduates
The Hong Kong Institute of Construction's 2025 Graduation Ceremony was held on 31 October, graced by Mr. David LAM, Under Secretary for Development, as the Guest of Honour. On that day, we presented graduation certificates, Best Student Awards, and scholarships to the students. New awards introduced this year were the Professionalism Award and the Safety Champion Award, which recognise graduates with outstanding performance in craftsmanship and safety management respectively. The first cohort of graduates from the "Professional Diploma in Construction for Specialist Trades" programme has graduated. Congratulations to them on their academic success as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. Seeing the young people dressed in graduation gowns and mortarboards, holding their certificates and taking photos with family and friends to mark this important moment in their lives, was a warm and touching scene. I encouraged the graduates to uphold their professionalism and utilise innovative technologies to help build a safer, continuously improving construction industry.
"Construction Industry Outstanding Young Person Award 2025 Presentation Ceremony & Hong Kong Young Construction Conference" – Young Construction Practitioners Shine With Innovation and Dedication
The "Construction Industry Outstanding Young Person Award 2025 Presentation Ceremony" was successfully held yesterday, where we witnessed six young professionals become the new cohort of Construction Industry Outstanding Young Persons. The award aims to recognise the spirit of excellence pursued by young construction practitioners, encouraging them to actively contribute to the industry's advancement and exert a positive influence on society. The award recognises the pursuit of excellence among young construction professionals, encouraging them to contribute actively to the advancement of the industry and have a positive influence on society. This year's award recipients come from various professional backgrounds and respond to the industry's needs and challenges in unique ways. Keith and Joe, from the Business and Management category, apply innovative technologies flexibly to improve the working environment and drive industry progress. Daisy and Oscar, from the Frontline Construction Personnel category, support frontline artisans in developing their careers within the construction industry outside of their regular work. Meanwhile, Owen and Adrian, from the Technology Transformation, Design, Academic and Others category, enhance the industry's image and nurture new talent. The fact that there have been female awardees for three consecutive editions not only highlights the participation of women in the industry, but also affirms that the construction industry is a stage on which everyone can showcase their talents. Congratulations once again to the six well-deserving awardees! I hope they will continue to drive the construction industry towards a smarter, more sustainable future!
The "Hong Kong Young Construction Conference 2025", led by young construction professionals, also took place at the event. On that day, we witnessed an inspiring dialogue between industry leaders and young construction professionals about the future of Hong Kong's construction industry. During the "Dialogue with the Secretary for Development" session, Mr. David LAM, Acting Secretary for Development, engaged directly with young people, hearing their ideas for the future and their thoughts on how the industry should develop. The "Forging New Roles, Constructing Tomorrow" session featured Ar. Nicholas HO, Commissioner for Belt and Road, and Ir Jenny YEUNG, Deputy Head of Geotechnical Engineering Office (Planning & Testing). The two young and promising industry talents shared their personal experiences in driving the transformation of the construction industry at both local and international levels. The lively and informative forum fully demonstrated the new generation of construction professionals’ concerns and aspirations about the future of the industry.
The "Future Construction Excellence Programme" had a Fruitful Trip to Beijing
Participants of the "Future Construction Excellence Programme 2025" have just completed the fruitful five-day "Regional Know-how Module" in Beijing. The programme focused on new quality productive forces and the digital transformation of the construction industry, deepening the participants' understanding of the core competitiveness of China's construction industry — "innovation-led, technologically self-reliant, and intelligently driven" — as well as the key role of green building and urban energy transition under the "Dual Carbon" strategy. Led by national-level experts and scholars, the participants explored the national strategic landscape and had eye-opening site visits to Industry 4.0 and major national projects. Tsinghua University professors lectured participants on key industry topics of the day, including the evolution and transformation of AI in the construction industry, industrial innovation and corporate strategy in the digital economy, and underground space and urban energy storage. Participants were also invited to visit the University's Laboratory of Engineering Structures.
The participants also visited the tech company RoboticPlus to learn about application and effectiveness of its software, RoBIM, in conjunction with robotics. At Infinigence, they learnt about the technological design of AI chips and computing power services, as well as the importance of computing power as a core foundational capability for smart construction. The visits to the Zhongguancun Industrial Technology Alliance Federation and China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited also made a strong impression on the participants.
The "ZCP Future Mobility Exhibition" Showcases New Green Transportation Technologies
To build Hong Kong into a green and smart city, the public's transition to green transportation and low-carbon mobility is an essential step. The CIC-Zero Carbon Park, in collaboration with several leading industry partners, held the three-day "ZCP Future Mobility Exhibition", showcasing various green transportation and mobility technologies, including autonomous vehicles, hydrogen-powered drones, robotic dogs, and pumping robots, to give the public a better understanding of the infinite possibilities of low-carbon mobility and green transport. The booths of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the Drainage Services Department, the Hong Kong and China Gas Company, CLP Power, Baidu Apollo, Tesla, together with a giant “Zero Carbon Agent” game board, were highly popular among participants, who took lots of photos throughout the event.
Uniting the Construction Industry in Speaking for the Future
The eighth Legislative Council General Election will be held on 7 December 2025. We cordially invite industry peers who are dedicated to serving the sector to stand for election on or before 6 November. We also urge all fellow practitioners in the construction industry to vote and elect representatives who can speak up for the industry's interests. The Legislative Council plays a key role in areas such as land planning, housing policy, and green building, which have a profound impact on the industry's development. Every vote is a force for advancing the industry's progress. Let us fulfil our civic duty together, speak for the construction industry, and work hand in hand to build a more liveable Hong Kong.
Another event not to be missed is the CIC’s flagship event, the "Construction Innovation Expo 2025". The CIExpo will be held from 11 to 13 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Schools and youth groups are welcome to arrange group visits. See you there, young friends!
