  1. What is the “CIESG Report” and what is it for?

The CIC provides applicants with the “CIESG Report”, which summarises companies’ participation in various ESG-related CIC activities, competitions and schemes within the past year, as well as relevant participation data in accordance with the HKEX ESG disclosure requirements. Listed companies may submit the report to responsible departments or consultancies, which use it as a reference in preparation of the corporate ESG report.

In addition, applicants can evaluate, plan and allocate internal resources through participation of related ESG activities and “CIESG Reporting Service” in order to enhance their ESG performance.

  1. Can applicants submit the report request form multiple times in one financial year (i.e. to request for “CIESG Report” more than once within the same year)?
Currently the “CIESG Reporting Service” provides the registered companies with one “CIESG Report” annually. The application deadline is before the end of the financial year of the registered companies.

  1. Can applicants request for collection of the “CIESG Report” at a time other than the specified period (a financial year usually ends by the end of December or March)?

Applicants may specify the date for report collection other than the specified period while submitting the Application Form for the CIESG Report (see E-Application). The CIC will process such applications and respond on a case-by-case basis. However, The CIC will need in general 30-45 working days to handle and approve the content of the report. Urgent applications will not be accepted.

  1. My company has already submitted the online Application Form for Reporting, but has not received any confirmation for long. What should I do?
The CIC will issue an approval or disapproval notice within one month after the submission of application. Should applicants have any enquiries, please contact the CIC staff by email: [email protected].

  1. What if the applicant does not agree with the content of the Report and requests for clarification or revision?
In case of any enquiries, request for clarification or revision is upon receipt of the report, please email to [email protected] within 14 days after receipt of the report. The CIC will respond within 14 days upon receipt of the email. In case of any dispute over the application result or content of the report, the CIC will retain the final decision.

  1. If our company compiles Sustainability Report instead of ESG Report, how we can make use of the "CIESG Report"?

  1. Which kind of company is eligible for the “CIESG Reporting Service”? What are the eligibility criteria?

Stakeholders in the construction industry are eligible for the service. The scope of business includes construction and renovation, infrastructure, construction materials, engineering consultancy, property management and agency, real estate development and investment.

Applicants should fulfill at least one of the following requirements:

- Registered Specialist Trade Contractors or Registered Subcontractors under the Registered Specialist Trade Contractors Scheme;
- Corporate Members of the Construction Industry Sports & Volunteering Programme;
- Having participated in Approved Technical Talents Training Programme or Collaborative/Cooperative Training Schemes;
- Exhibitors/Supporters of BIM Space, CITAC or CIC-ZCP;
- Suppliers/Vendors on the CITF pre-approved list;or
- Having paid the Construction Industry Levy.


  1. Can unlisted companies apply for the “CIESG Reporting Service”?

Unlisted companies that fulfill the Eligibility Criteria can apply for the “CIESG Reporting Service”. In case of any dispute over the application result, the CIC will retain the final decision.

  1. How to apply for the “CIESG Reporting Service”?

Applicants should first submit the registration form online (see E-Application). Successful applicants will receive a letter of confirmation and information on CIC ESG activities within one month upon registration. The applicants could take part in ESG activities during the financial year and submit a CIESG report application form online (see E-Application) before the end of the financial year. Successful applicants will receive the “CIESG Report” within the specified period. Please refer to How to Apply for details.

  1. How long is the validity of the registration of “CIESG Reporting Service”?

The successful registration of the service will be permanently valid and no need to re-apply for the service every year. However, registered companies are required to submit the Application Form for the CIESG Report(see E-Application) before the end of every financial year, so as to request for the “CIESG Report” of the most recent year. The registered company shall update their contact information to the CIC if there are any changes.

  1. How can a registered company be updated on the information about ESG activities and service schemes?

The CIC will update the information about ESG activities and service schemes on a regular basis. Registered companies may browse the website of the CIESG Reporting Service and emails from the CIC. Please contact the CIC staff for any enquiries.

  1. My company has already registered the CIESG Reporting Service online, but has not received any confirmation for long. What should I do?

The CIC will issue an approval notice with ESG activity information or disapproval notice within one month after the submission of application. If the notification is still yet to be received, please contact the CIC staff by email: [email protected].
